Janae Hinson is the VP at GMMB. Prior to their current position, they were the Senior Communications Manager at City Year from November 2019 to March 2021. There, they were in charge of engaging journalists, higher education thought leaders, institutional leaders, and partners to raise the profile of their organization’s research and ideas. Before City Year, Hinson worked as the Communications Manager for the College Excellence Program at The Aspen Institute from October 2018 to November 2019. In this role, they led preparation for Chancellor external-facing events and engagements, including planning logistics; writing speeches, testimony, and talking points; and managing relationships with event coordinators.
From February 2016 to October 2018, Hinson served as the Manager of Strategic Initiatives for District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). In this role, they led preparation for Chancellor external-facing events and engagements, including planning logistics; writing speeches, testimony, and talking points; and managed relationships with event coordinators. Janae also supported district-level communication to external audiences via email and letters, and developed vision and messaging for district-level marketing materials and enrollment collateral.
Hinson began their career as a Senior Account Executive at Widmeyer Communications in June 2013 where they worked for three years before moving on to their next role.
Janae Hinson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a focus in public relations and political science. Janae then went on to earn a Master of Public Administration from American University.
Their manager is Raelynn Olson, Managing Partner. They are on a team with Krista Reichel - VP, Allie McKay - VP, and Ally Flaherty - VP.
