Oscar Avilés has worked in a variety of roles since 2010. In 2008, they were a Resident Assistant at Southwestern University Upward Bound Summer Program. In 2010, they were a Spanish and Writing Tutor at Southwestern University. In 2011, they were a Corps Member (CM) at Teach For America and a Bilingual Educator at San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). In 2013, they were a Corps Member Adviser at Teach For America Houston Institute, a Head Coach at Young Women’s Leadership Academy SAISD, and a Bilingual Department Chair at Beacon Hill Elementary SAISD. In 2014, they were in Management at McMaster-Carr. Since 2015, they have been in District Partnerships at Goalbook, where they work to empower teachers to transform instruction so that all students succeed.
Oscar Avilés obtained a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature and Latin American Studies from Southwestern University between 2006 and 2010.
