Julia Vandermeer

Julia VanderMeer has extensive work experience in various roles related to product management, project management, and instructional design. Julia is currently working as a Staff Technical Product Manager at GRAIL since 2022. Prior to that, they held several positions at Invitae, including Senior Product Manager, Genomic Software (Scalable Interpretation Initiative Lead), and Project Manager Team Lead, Genomic Software. Julia also worked as a Project Manager and a Product Manager, both in the Genomic Software department.

Before joining Invitae, Julia worked at the UCSF School of Medicine, where they served as a Bridges Curriculum Science Instructional Designer. In this role, they collaborated with faculty to develop online learning materials and strategies to enhance medical education. Julia also worked as an iRocketReader Content Specialist during their time at UCSF.

Julia's academic background includes a Ph.D. in which they studied the impact of sequence changes in cis-regulatory elements on human limb malformations. Julia'sresearch involved managing multiple projects, developing novel protocols, and collaborating with other institutions. Julia also established a human subject DNA database and conducted sequencing to identify mutations related to congenital limb malformations. Julia collaborated with the Shendure lab at the University of Washington for a functional assay project and worked with the Bejerano lab at Stanford on ancient conservation research.

Additionally, Julia has served as an Adjunct Faculty at the University of San Francisco, where they taught a course on Genetics. Julia has also worked as a Post-baccalaureate IRTA Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, focusing on the study of common genetic polymorphisms associated with human neural tube defects.

Julia VanderMeer obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Carleton College from 2001 to 2005. Subsequently, they pursued their PhD in Biomedical Science (Genetics) at the University of California, San Francisco from 2007 to 2013.
