Vivian Xiao has extensive work experience in the field of scientific research and development. Vivian started their career at Affymetrix as a Postdoctoral Scientist and Staff Scientist I, where they performed samples preparation and in silico sequence analysis for GeneChip SNP discovery. Vivian then worked on the GeneChip Cytochrome P450 2D6, 2C19 polymorphism assay. Moving on, Vivian joined Aclara as a Senior Scientist, where they designed and developed primers and probes for eTag Gene Expression assays and led eTag Genotyping DNA assay development. Vivian also led proof of concept platform and assay development on the microfluidics chip. At Cepheid, Vivian held the roles of Senior Scientist - Biotechnology R&D and Senior Scientist - Product Transfer. In these roles, they designed and developed International Scale calibrated Secondary Standards for Xpert BCR-ABL Monitoring Assays, developed and improved Xpert BCR-ABL assays, and worked on various other projects, including Biotreat Anthrax assay improvement and Norovirus assay specific reagent assays. Following their time at Cepheid, Vivian joined Bio-Rad Laboratories as a Staff Scientist, where they supported ddPCR BCR-ABL reagents and test methods, supported ddPCR BCR-ABL IS% assay development, and led the assessment and evaluation of high multiplexed ddPCR assays for non-invasive prenatal testing and cancer mutation detection. Most recently, Vivian has been working at Clear Labs as a Senior Staff Scientist. In 2020, they joined GRAIL, Inc. as a Staff Scientist, where they are involved in research and development. Overall, Vivian Xiao has a diverse and extensive background in scientific research and development, with expertise in assay development, manufacturing systems, and molecular biology techniques.
Vivian Xiao obtained a Ph.D. in Biosurface and Cellular Engineering, formerly Biochemical Engineering, from Duke University. Vivian also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Polymer Chemistry from Fudan University. In addition to their academic achievements, they have attained a Regulatory Affairs Certificate in Medical Devices from RAPS Online University in April 2013.
