Scott Macklin

Scott Macklin is the current Director of Engineering at Gravitics. Scott previously served as Sr. Director of Propulsion at Virgin Orbit from July 2018 to June 2022, during which time they led the propulsion organization through first orbital flights. Scott was also responsible for Virgin Orbit's components, rocket engines, and propulsion stage systems. Prior to that, Macklin served as Chief Engineer, LauncherOne Evolution at Virgin Orbit from July 2017 to July 2018. Before that, they were Propulsion Boost Stage Manager at Virgin Galactic from April 2016 to June 2017, responsible for development of the NewtonThree rocket engine and first stage propulsion systems of LauncherOne. Macklin also served as Propulsion Systems/Development Engineer at Virgin Galactic from July 2012 to April 2016, responsible for the clean sheet system sizing, design, and development of the NewtonThree rocket engine. Scott began their career as a Propulsion Development Engineer at Space Exploration Technologies in January 2012 before moving to USC Collaborative High Altitude Flow Facility as an Electric Propulsion Designer in January 2011. Scott returned to the Laboratory of Spacecraft Environment Interaction Engineering in August 2010 as a Thermal Control Systems Engineer.

Scott Macklin has a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California. Scott also has a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the same school.
