Kirsten Barnes is an experienced expert in the circular economy and environmental science. Currently serving as an Expert Circular Economy Analyst at GreenCape since May 2014, Kirsten has focused on identifying barriers and interventions to enhance the waste economy in the Western Cape. Previous roles include a WMRIG representative at WCRAG from 2011 to 2015 and an Environmental Scientist at Waste Plan from December 2009 to May 2014, where Kirsten concentrated on waste management and recycling. Academically, Kirsten holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Science and Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Further academic experience includes postdoctoral research at the University of Cape Town and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, specializing in wetland biogeochemistry and sulphate reduction in extreme environments.
