Toby Thompson has extensive experience in the field of patent law. Toby currently works as a Principal at Griffith Hack, where they advise clients on global patent strategy, portfolio management, and patent drafting and prosecution. Toby also conducts freedom to operate searches and handles oppositions before patent offices. Prior to this role, Toby was a Senior Associate at Griffith Hack, where they supported clients in the pharmaceuticals, animal healthcare, and chemistry sectors. Before joining Griffith Hack, Toby worked as a Senior Associate at FB Rice and gained overseas experience as a Qualified Attorney. Toby also worked at Abel & Imray, where they gained extensive experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and worldwide portfolio management. Toby began their career at AstraZeneca, where they held positions as a Team Leader and Senior Research Scientist in medicinal chemistry.
Toby Thompson completed their education with a Masters in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne in 2018. Prior to that, they obtained a Certificate in IP Law from Queen Mary University of London in 2009. Toby also holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Nottingham, which they earned between the years 1999 and 2003. Toby'sundergraduate studies were focused on Chemistry, where they completed a Masters in Science with Honours (MSci) at the University of Nottingham from 1995 to 1999.
