Richard Capistrano Sabsa

Richard Capistrano CISSP SABSA has a strong and diverse work experience in the field of cyber security. Richard Capistrano started their career at Globe Telecom as a Security Administrator, where they implemented and maintained the Information Security Management System (ISMS) and developed policies and procedures. Richard Capistrano also worked on designing information security roles and responsibilities and conducted awareness training programs.

After that, Richard joined Telstra as a Manager - Security Innovations, where they provided guidance and security advice to internal and external customers. Richard Capistrano played a key role in developing managed security service capabilities for Telstra Security Operations.

Richard Capistrano then moved to Commonwealth Bank as a Security Designer and contributed to the development and industrialization of the Security Information Event Management as a Security Service. During their time at Commonwealth Bank, the bank was recognized as the No. 1 Bank in its 101 years of existence.

Richard later joined Telstra again, this time as a Senior Security Consultant. Richard Capistrano developed and delivered the Cyber Security Health Check Service to customers from various industry segments. Richard Capistrano also provided assessment and advisory services focusing on IT Governance, Risk, and Compliance.

Following their tenure at Telstra, Richard joined CQR as a Senior Security Specialist. Richard Capistrano provided cyber security advisory services with a focus on Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) and compliance to industry best practices. Richard Capistrano implemented and operationalized the ISO27001 Information Security Management System (ISMS) for an energy utility company.

Richard then moved to BNY Mellon | Pershing as Vice President-Information Security Lead. Richard Capistrano was responsible for managing the information and cyber security of Pershing Australia and played a crucial role in developing and implementing the Cyber Security Strategy. Richard Capistrano also established and co-chaired the Information Security Governance Committee.

Currently, Richard is working at GWA Group Limited as the Head of Cyber Security.

Richard Capistrano CISSP SABSA attended Mapúa University from 1987 to 1992, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering. Richard Capistrano has also earned additional certifications, including CISSP from ISC2, ISMS Lead Auditor from SGS, and SABSA-SCF from The SABSA Institute.
