Head of Information Security at Hack The Box

Ben R. has a diverse range of work experience in the field of information security. Ben started their career at Schreiber Translations, Inc. as a Project Manager and Information Systems Security Manager from September 2008 to November 2010. From there, they moved on to MBL Technologies Inc. as an Information Security Consultant, where they developed and managed a real-time Continuous Monitoring dashboard for a Federal Agency and provided Information Security/Certification and Accreditation (C&A) Support from November 2010 to February 2013.

Next, Ben joined PwC as a Senior Associate, leading teams in security assessments, vulnerability assessments, and compliance assessments for government and private sector clients. Ben also performed network penetration tests and web application security assessments as well as system configuration baseline reviews from February 2013 to August 2015.

After that, Ben worked at GuidePoint Security where they held various roles, including Security Consultant, Senior Security Consultant, and Principal Security Consultant. Their responsibilities involved providing security consulting services to clients.

In 2019, Ben co-founded Vartai Security, an Information Security consultancy, where they served as the Managing Principal. Ben assisted with day-to-day operations, strategy, business development, and conducted on-site trainings within the local community.

Finally, Ben joined Hack The Box, initially as a Moderator from December 2017 to February 2019. Ben then progressed to Senior Content Developer, Training Lead, and eventually became the Head of Training Development. In their recent role, they led a multinational team in the development and enhancement of training courses and materials, with the goal of training the next generation of offensive security practitioners.

Overall, Ben R. has a strong background in information security, with experience in consulting, training development, and leadership positions.

Ben R. attended American University - Kogod School of Business from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a focus on Business Administration and Spanish Studies. In 2007, they also briefly attended Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez to study Business Administration.

In terms of certifications, Ben R. holds several specialized qualifications. In 2013, they obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. Following that, in 2014, they acquired the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification from ISACA, as well as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)². Continuing their education, they obtained the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) certification from Offensive Security in 2015.

In 2015, they also earned the eLearnSecurity Web Application Penetration Tester (eWPT) certification from eLearnSecurity. The following year, in 2016, they acquired the eLearnSecurity Certified Professional Penetration Tester (eCPPT) certification from the same institution, along with the eLearnSecurity Advanced Web Application Penetration Tester certification. More recently, in 2017, they obtained the Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE) certification from Offensive Security.
