Tom Haynes has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Tom started their career as an Assistant Professor at Wichita State University in 1997, and then worked as a Senior Software Engineer at both Jedi Technologies and Nazomi in 1999. In 2000, they joined NetApp as an Internal Test Engineer and managed the Unix and Filer sysadmin and Engr IT teams. Tom also worked at Network Appliance as an NFS Engineer from 1999 to 2005, where they developed the Data ONTAP kernel with a focus on the WAFL and NFS groups, and was granted 5 patents. Tom then joined Sun Microsystems as a Staff Engineer from 2006 to 2010. After brief stints at Oracle and NetApp as a Principal Software Engineer and Senior Engineer respectively, they joined Primary Data Inc in 2014 as a Protocol Engineer. Most recently, Tom has been working as a Software Architect at Hammerspace since March 2018.

- Tom Haynes then went on to attain a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Tulsa, studying there from 1990 to 1994.
- Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from The University of Tulsa, completing their studies from 1994 to 1998.
