David Sexton

David Sexton has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of genomics and bioinformatics. David is currently working as the VP of Digital Lab Systems at Harbinger Health since 2022. Prior to this, they held positions at various reputable organizations. At Biogen, they served as the Senior Director, Head of Genome Technologies and Informatics from 2018 to 2022, where they were responsible for data infrastructure, tool development, and implementation of FAIR data principles. Before that, they worked as the Director, Head Scientific Computing at Biogen from 2018 to 2020, where they oversaw the development of serverless applications and bioinformatics pipelines for large-scale genomics data.

From 2012 to 2018, David was associated with the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) as the Global Lead Genomics Information Systems, leading software strategy and architecting software, database, and computing environments for next-generation sequencing initiatives. David also served as the Site Head NIBR IT for a brief period.

Prior to NIBR, David worked as the Lead Project Manager at Baylor College of Medicine from 2011 to 2012, where they played a crucial role in the creation of a clinical high-throughput sequencing analysis pipeline. David also managed pipeline development for a fleet of sequencers.

David's career started at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they worked as the Director of Computational Genomics Core from 2005 to 2011. In this role, they managed the daily operations of a scientific core research facility and provided services, support, and training to faculty and staff. David also led informatics projects through the software development lifecycle.

Before Vanderbilt, David served as the Director of Bioinformatics at BioVentures, Inc from 2002 to 2004. David also worked as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Invitrogen from 2001 to 2002 and as a Sequence Analyst at Myriad Genetics from 1996 to 2001.

David's early career began at the University of Arizona, where they worked as a Research Assistant II from 1992 to 1996.
