John is General Counsel at Harvey, a platform that makes generative AI useful and accessible to lawyers and other professionals. Prior to Harvey, John was Vice President, Deputy General Counsel at Snowflake Inc., one of the most successful software IPOs, focused on the Data Cloud. During his tenure at Snowflake, his teams were responsible for commercial, product counsel, intellectual property, privacy, and security, as well as litigation. Prior to Snowflake, John was a Senior Director of IP Strategy and Commercial Litigation at Zymergen, a start-up focused on synthetic biology. Prior to that, he was a senior member of the patent team at Google LLC where he was the head of Google's consumer hardware patents team responsible for all patent-related issues relating to Google's consumer hardware business (e.g., its Pixel phones, chromebooks, and Home devices, as well as its Nest products) including issues relating to Standard Essential Patents. John’s career at Google started in 2009 as a member of Google's patent litigation team for five-and-a-half years where he helped defend the company from a large number of patent cases including various matters that went to trial. John also headed up Google's Patent Transactions team, with responsibility for nearly all inbound, outbound, and cross-licensing deals for Google as well as divestitures and strategic acquisitions. Before joining Google, John was a patent litigator in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
