Russell Brown

Russell founded Hawkins\Brown with Roger Hawkins in 1988. Before this he worked for Peter Eisenman in New York and Ricardo Legorreta in Mexico City, and has maintained his links with the USA by building a beach house in San Diego. He was an Associate at Rock Townsend in London where he became a chartered architect in 1984 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

He has been a Nationally Elected Member of the RIBA Council and the RIBA Trust. He is an External Examiner to Greenwich University School of Architecture, RIBA and Civic Trust Awards Assessor and is Chairman of the Hackney Design Panel, and Vice Chairman of the South Cambridgeshire District Council Design Enabling Panel.

He is currently working on a diverse range of projects for Qatari Diar Delancy (Build to Rent), University College London, Royal College of Surgeons, Lendlease, City London, Bouygues and the Crown Estate.

He is an active design leader on all these projects and combines this with chair in design workshops for all the practice’s projects on Big Crit Tuesdays.

In a former life, Russell was a journalist and still writes and broadcasts on art and architecture. He is loud, lively and a bundle of creative energy constantly motivating and challenging the staff, clients and the norms of dress sense.
