Leigh Chapman has a diverse work experience in the healthcare and education fields. Leigh is currently serving as the Chief Nursing Officer at Health Canada | Santé Canada since August 2022. Additionally, Leigh holds the position of Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto since January 2022. Leigh has previously worked as an Examiner and Item Writer at the Touchstone Institute since January 2013 and as a Registered Nurse for Consumption and Treatment Services at Regent Park Community Health Centre since October 2019. Leigh has also served as the Director of Clinical Services at Inner City Health Associates from March 2020 to March 2022 and as a Senior Advisor for Health and Social Policy at University Health Network from February 2020 to December 2021. Furthermore, they have been a Board Member at the Harm Reduction Nurses Association from 2018 to June 2021. Leigh has held various roles at the University of Toronto, including Teaching Assistant, Graduate Placement Coordinator, and Education Specialist in the Master of Nursing Program. Leigh has also been a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Wilson Centre, University Health Network from April 2014 to August 2019. Prior to that, Leigh was a Manager of Professional Practice at VHA Home HealthCare from April 2012 to January 2013.
Leigh Chapman holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Nursing from the University of Toronto, which was obtained from 2011 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Health Sciences from McMaster University from 2003 to 2005. Leigh also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from McMaster University, earned between 1999 and 2003. Their undergraduate studies were conducted at Trent University, where they completed an Honors BA in Spanish and Anthropology from 1991 to 1995.
