Philip Johnson is the senior program director of The Heinz Endowments' Environment & Health Program, which is part of the foundation's Sustainability team and focuses on Clean Economy and Environmental & Public Health goals.
He currently manages a grants portfolio and community initiatives that focus on environmental systems, public health, susceptible populations and at-risk communities, social equity and environmental justice, as well as energy impacts and alternative energy, green infrastructure, community resilience and climate change.
Prior to joining the Endowments, Phil worked for government agencies and nonprofits in fisheries/ecological restoration, public health and environmental science.
Phil currently serves on the steering committee of the National Academies Environmental Health Matters Initiative.
He currently serves on the board of Environmental Grantmakers Association and is past chair emeritus of the Health & Environmental Funders Network.
Phil recently taught environment and health at Yale College Environmental Studies Program.
He received his Master of Public Health, Master of Environmental Science and PhD in Risk Management from Yale University.
