Aaron Newman has worked in the software engineering and data analysis fields since 2012. In 2013, they were the VP of Environmental Engineering at Girls Engineering Change 501(c)(3). From 2012 to 2014, they were the Campus Sustainability Liason at Duke University Office of Sustainability, where they identified eateries on campus with the lowest environmental impact and managed volunteers for a zero waste football initiative. In 2014, they were a Teaching Assistant at Duke University Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science, where they held office hours and facilitated the weekly laboratory component of the Signals and Systems class. In 2015, they were a Data Analyst Intern at Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative and an Undergraduate Research Engineer at Energy Data Analytics Lab, where they developed a machine learning and computer vision algorithm in MATLAB. In 2016, they were a Software Engineer Intern at AutoGrid and a Software Engineer at ndustrial.io, where they built software tools in Python and Java for processing real-time data streams from hundreds of thousands of internet-connected industrial devices. From 2017 to 2022, they were a Technical Lead - Predictive Controls, Senior Software Engineer at AutoGrid, where they guided the overall design and development of the Predictive Controls Platform, a DERMS that optimizes and manages pools of behind-the-meter distributed energy resources. Aaron also coordinated cross-application integrations and feature testing and oversaw the efforts to scale the Predictive Controls Platform.
Aaron Newman received their Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science degree from Duke University between 2013 and 2017, with a field of study in Energy Management and Systems Technology/Technician. Prior to that, they attended Enloe High School between 2009 and 2013. In addition, Aaron holds a LEED Green Associate certification from the Green Building Commissioning Certification Institute, obtained in August 2015, as well as an Emergency Medical Technician certification from Wake Technical Institute.
