Sandeep Venkataram is a Computational Biologist at Hexagon Bio, starting in May 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UCSD Department of Biological Sciences from October 2016 to September 2022. In this role, they led two interdisciplinary projects collaborating with scientists from the University of Arizona and the University of Mississippi. Sandeep also established a novel research direction studying adaptation in microbial communities and discovered a phenomenon called "Evolutionary Stalling." Sandeep developed Python software for DNA sequence extraction used by researchers at Stanford, Arizona State, and UCSD and integrated empirical measurements with NGS data for various analyses. Before their postdoctoral role, Sandeep was a Ph.D. student in Biology at Stanford University from August 2010 to September 2016 and an Undergraduate Intern at Washington University in St. Louis from August 2007 to August 2010.
Sandeep Venkataram completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Computer Science at Washington University in St. Louis from 2006 to 2010. Subsequently, they pursued a Ph.D in Biology with a focus on Eco/Evo at Stanford University, which was completed from 2010 to 2016.
