James Millar

James Millar has extensive work experience in the aviation industry, particularly within Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd. James began their career in 2007 as a Leading Fire-fighter before progressing through various roles within the Airport Fire Service.

In 2008, James became a Sub-Officer, where they focused on developing safety management systems and implementing a business-focused approach in Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS). James successfully introduced Flight Crew Fire Safety training courses and customized training packages for business partners.

In 2009, James took on the role of Airport Fire Manager/Acting Airport Fire Service Operations Manager. James managed a 3-shift Airport Fire Service, ensuring regulatory compliance and developing a quality-driven ethos. James also took on additional responsibilities as the Airport Duty Manager and Security Manager.

From 2017 to 2018, James served as the Airport Fire Service Business Development Manager, responsible for implementing strategic and operational changes within the HIAL Airport Fire Service. James actively networked at industry events to attract clients and generated new business through existing customer networks.

In 2018, James was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer. James developed and introduced an interim strategy for the Airport Fire Service, Engineering, and Security team, and led multi-disciplinary audit teams across HIAL locations.

From 2019 until the present, James has worked as the Chief Fire Officer at Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd. James has demonstrated expertise in safety management systems and change management while leading organizational change. James is known as a compassionate, analytical, and rational leader who effectively supports team members.

In 2021, James also became a member of the Board of Management at Inverness College UHI.

James Millar attended New College Lanarkshire from 2019 to 2021, where they obtained a Professional Development Award in Resilience Management. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2019, they pursued a Professional Development Award in Analysing Resilience Management, also at New College Lanarkshire. In 1995 to 1997, James attended Cardonald Colllege, Glasgow, obtaining a Higher National Diploma in Social Sciences and Management. Additionally, during the same period, they attended Cardonald College, focusing on Social Sciences and Management.
