George Findlater has a strong background in archaeology and historic preservation. George worked at Historic Environment Scotland from 2004 to 2018, holding various roles including Head of Community and Economic Development, Deputy Head of Casework, and Senior Inspector of Ancient Monuments. From 2016 to 2020, they were a Specialist Assessor at the British Council. George also served as a Trustee and Board Member at CBRL Amman/The British Institute Amman from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, they had positions as Acting Director and Assistant Director at CBRL Amman/The British Institute Amman from 1999 to 1999 and 1996 to 1998, respectively. Prior to that, they were a Field Director at the Centre for Field Archaeology, University of Edinburgh in 1996 and the British Institute at Amman for Archaeology and History in 1995. George started their career as a Freelance Archaeologist from 1990 to 1995. Recently, in 2020, they became an Honorary Fellow in Archaeology at Durham University.
George Findlater completed their undergraduate education at The University of Edinburgh from 1985 to 1989, earning an MA(Hons) degree in Archaeology & Ancient History. George then pursued further studies at the British School of Archaeology at Jerusalem in 1995, where they obtained a Research Scholarship in Archaeology. Additionally, from 2000 to 2004, George completed their PhD in Archaeology at The University of Edinburgh.
