Richard Strachan

Head Of Cultural Resources at Historic Environment Scotland

Richard Strachan has extensive work experience in the field of archaeology and cultural resources. Richard started their career as a Field Officer at the Centre for Field Archaeology in 1991 and worked there until 2000. Richard then joined Historic Scotland, where they held various positions including Inspector of Ancient Monuments, Geographical Information Manager, and Senior Archaeologist from 2000 to 2018. In 2018, they joined Historic Environment Scotland as the Head of Cultural Resources.

Richard Strachan attended The University of Edinburgh from 1987 to 1991, earning a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Archaeology. Richard then pursued further education at The Manchester Metropolitan University, where they studied from 2003 to 2008, obtaining a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Geographical Information Science.
