Carl Baker is a CEng FIMechE with extensive work experience in the rail industry. Carl is currently serving as the Head of Mechanical Engineering at Hitachi Rail. Prior to this, they worked at LH Group Services for eight years as the Head of Engineering, where they led a team of project engineers. Before that, they held the position of Head of Technical Support at Porterbrook Leasing Company Ltd for thirteen years, where they managed the Technical Services team and coordinated activities to support the safe operation of the fleet. Carl also gained experience as a Senior Consultant at Halcrow, providing technical consultancy to UK clients. Their earlier roles include Project Development Engineer at Angel Trains, where they focused on engine development, final drive failure evaluation, and safety system development for rail vehicles. Carl started their career as a Systems Engineer at Hunslet, heavily involved in the design, sourcing, and maintenance of electric trains. Carl began their professional journey as a Commissioning Engineer at GEC Traction.
Carl Baker CEng FIMechE completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Salford, from 1985 to 1988.
