Derrick Saito is a Project Engineer at Hohbach-Lewin Structural and Civil Engineers since May 2019, specializing in leading California Public School (K-12) and Community College projects to DSA approval, with a focus on minimizing structurally related DSA backcheck rounds. Prior experience includes roles as a Design Engineer and Staff Engineer at Barry Engineering, Inc. from July 2014 to May 2019, where Derrick developed expertise in complex wood design for multi-family buildings. An internship as an E.I.T. with the United States Air Force involved developing a testing protocol for wind load analysis on a significant optical telescope project. Prior to an engineering career, Derrick was a professional baseball player with the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners, achieving a childhood dream of being selected in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft after a non-scholarship walk-on experience at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. Derrick holds a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering from San Francisco State University and a degree from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
