In 2017, they also worked as a Laboratory Assistant at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, assisting professors and maintaining the engineering materials laboratory.
In 2018, Cantu worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety, where they conducted experiments to analyze the energy efficiency of bearings.
In 2019, they held multiple internships. At NASA, they researched interstitial materials for lithium-ion batteries and contributed to the manufacturing of battery packs. At Cummins Inc., Cantu worked as a Quality Analytics Integration Intern, developing fault code books to reduce warranty claims. They also returned to the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they evaluated and developed a freight railcar onboard condition monitoring module.
Most recently, Cantu is working as a Product Engineer at Hum, starting in 2022.
Lee Cantu received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where they studied from 2015 to 2019. They later pursued a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the same university, from 2020 to 2021.
