Dan received his Bachelors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and his Masters in Biotechnology from Boston University, carrying out his masters work at the Whitehead Institute Center for Genome Research in Cambridge. He attended Baylor College of Medicine for his doctoral studies in the interdisciplinary program for Cell and Molecular Biology, working in the department of Molecular and Human Genetics, and then joined the inaugural group of scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany as post-doctoral researcher studying the underlying biology of aging.
He saw a need in Greenville for a place where pioneering technologies and products could be developed and brought to market. He studied the tooling and manufacturing business and opened IAM Scientific in 2013 to develop and manufacture new products. In 2019, he opened a technology incubator, Lightdeck Labs, and continues his vision by also helping new companies succeed at their business.
