James Farrell

James Farrell has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. James is currently working at IDA Ireland as the Head of Content, Consumer, Business Services and Emerging Business Departments since January 2023. In this role, they lead a team that works with world-class companies who have chosen Ireland as a location to grow their businesses in various sectors such as content, consumer services, and business services.

Prior to their current position, James was the Head of Content, Consumer, and Business Services Department at IDA Ireland from November 2020 to January 2023. James played a pivotal role in leading a team that worked with companies in sectors such as social media, games, media entertainment & publishing, video, music, marketing automation & adtech, animation, eLearning & Edtech, and (Post) Production FX & VFX. James also served as the Head of Strategic Policy Department at IDA Ireland from September 2017 to November 2020, where they led a team that developed and advocated for strategic and public policy initiatives to enhance Ireland's attractiveness as a destination for inward investment.

Before joining IDA Ireland, James worked at EY as a Senior Manager in the Financial Services Advisory division from December 2014 to September 2017. James also held the position of Portfolio Manager at the National Treasury Management Agency from January 2009 to November 2014.

Earlier in their career, James worked at Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Consultant from 2002 to December 2008. James also had a brief stint as a Consultant at The World Bank from May 2007 to May 2008.

James Farrell has a Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, and Social Studies from Trinity College Dublin. James also holds a Master's degree in Accounting from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. In addition, James has obtained the ACA qualification from Chartered Accountants Ireland and participated in the Senior Executive Fellows program at Harvard Kennedy School.
