Dan Thomas is the founder and CEO of IdeaCrew. Prior to that, they served as the director of the Fusion Center Program for the District of Columbia government. In that role, they launched a multi-agency, cross-discipline homeland security facility designed to protect Washington, DC from terrorist attack and criminal activities.
Before their work with the District of Columbia government, Dan was the director of the DCStat Program for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer for the Government of the District of Columbia. In that role, they led the team that defined strategy, prepared funds-securing prototypes, designed, developed and operated the DCStat enterprise system and infrastructure. The DCStat program gained national attention, helping spawn the government open data movement. DCState received industry recognition in the form of multiple national awards for innovation and technology design.
Dan's work on CapStat, a DHS-funded, cross-jurisdiction proof-of-concept, demonstrated the ability to integrate public safety and emergency response data to aid in emergency situations across Washington, DC and the surrounding 17 counties in Virginia and Maryland that comprise the NCR. The CapStat design became the reference architecture for the National Capital Region (NCR) Interoperability project.
Dan Thomas attended the University of Alaska Anchorage, where they studied mathematics.
