Virginia Arechavala-Gomeza

Virginia Arechavala-Gomeza is an accomplished Ikerbasque Research Professor with extensive experience in nucleic acid therapeutics and neuromuscular disorders. Since January 2019, Virginia has served as an Ikerbasque Research Professor at Ikerbasque and has concurrently held a similar position at Biocruces Bizkaia Instituto Investigación Sanitaria since June 2013, where leadership includes overseeing research on rare diseases. As a co-founder of Miramoon Pharma and chair of the COST Action DARTER, Virginia has significantly contributed to the field of RNA therapeutics. Prior roles include postdoctoral research positions at University College London and Imperial College London, focusing on morpholino antisense oligonucleotides for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Virginia holds a PhD in Neurology from King’s College London and degrees in Immunopharmacology and Pharmacy from University of Strathclyde and Universidad del País Vasco, respectively.
