Maarten Willems

Maarten Willems has a diverse range of work experience. In 2019, they joined IMEC as the Vice President of Global Business Development, where they focused on identifying worldwide partners, setting up joint ventures, and coordinating legal/IP actions. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2019, they owned and operated their independent consulting firm, Willems IT Services BVBA. Maarten was also a Co-Founder, Director, and Partner at HyperTrust from 2000 to 2004. Additionally, they served as VP of Professional Services at GlobalSign from 1998 to 2000, focusing on internet security. Before that, they worked as the Director of Engineering at Keyware Technologies from 1997 to 1998 and as a System Analyst at Alcatel from 1996 to 1998. Maarten began their career as a Research Assistant at K.U.Leuven from 1994 to 1995.

Maarten Willems has a diverse education history. Maarten started with obtaining a degree in Latijn-Wiskunde from Sint Lodewijkscollege in 1988. Maarten then pursued a degree in electro technical engineering at KU Leuven, which they completed in 1993. Following this, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence from KU Leuven in 1994. In 2000, they pursued an MBA in Finance at Vlerick Business School, which they completed in 2002. Maarten further expanded their education by pursuing a candidate degree in Law at Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 2002 to 2004. Lastly, they studied European Intellectual Property at KVIV from 2008 to 2010.
