Mary Ryan is an esteemed academic and researcher with extensive experience at Imperial College London since January 1998, currently serving as Vice-Provost for Research and Enterprise. Key roles include Academic Lead for the Imperial Policy Engagement Unit, Chair of the Imperial Forum Advisory Group, and Director of the Imperial-Shell University Technology Centre. Ryan holds the position of Professor of Materials Science and has been a significant advocate for women in engineering through founding and chairing the Women in Engineering Network. Additionally, Ryan has contributed to various leadership roles within the Faculty of Engineering, including Vice-Dean (Research) and Director of Postgraduate Studies. Prior to Imperial College, Ryan worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory as an Assistant Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow after earning a PhD in Materials from The University of Manchester, where Ryan also completed an MSc in Corrosion Science and Engineering and a BSc in Physics and Mathematics. Since January 2021, Ryan has held the Armourers and Brasiers' Chair in Materials Science.
