Hugh McKay

Fiber Production Engineer at IMRA America

Hugh McKay has been working in the field of fiber production engineering since 2007, when they began working for IMRA America, Inc. Hugh'srole includes process development for preform fabrication, process development for optical fiber drawing, and fiber characterization and simulation. Prior to this, they were a Post Doc and Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan from 2003. During this time, they focussed on Ion Beam (FIB) modification of III-V semiconductor surfaces, as well as Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) of III-V semiconductors. Hugh also designed and incorporated a FEI FIB with a Gen II MBE system to study InAs quantum dot nucleation. Additionally, their work included epitaxial growth of dilute N GaAsN on GaAs surfaces via molecular beam expitaxy, and characterization of semiconductor films using x-ray, AFM and hall effect measurements.

Hugh McKay received their PhD in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University from 1998 to 2003. Prior to that, they obtained a BS in Physics from Dalhousie University from 1992 to 1994.
