Hilde Eggermont serves as the Administrateur-Generaal at the INBO (Research Institute for Nature and Forest) since November 2023, and is also the IUCN Vice President. Previously, Eggermont worked as a Programme Coordinator and Senior Biodiversity expert at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences from January 2012 to November 2023, overseeing the Belgian Biodiversity Platform. Between 2004 and 2012, Eggermont held a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Ghent University and the Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences, leading projects related to fossil Chironomidae and Afrotropical Biodiversity. Eggermont's research expertise focuses on the long-term dynamics of aquatic communities and ecosystem function in African lakes, utilizing biological tracers from lake-sediment records. Eggermont earned a PhD in Zoology/Animal Biology from Ghent University from 1999 to 2004.
