Darren Matsugu

Darren Matsugu has a diverse work experience in the energy industry. Darren started their career in 2004 as an Economist at R.K. House & Associates. From 2006 to 2008, they worked as an Energy Advisor at the Ontario Ministry of Energy. In 2008, they joined the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) as a Senior Analyst in Market Evolution Analysis & Research. Over the years, Darren took on various roles at IESO, including Supervisor in Analysis & Market Rules from 2013 to 2016, Supervisor in Government Relations and Policy Analysis from 2011 to 2013, and Senior Manager in Market Design & Integration from 2017 to 2021. Darren'sresponsibilities in the latter role involved delivering high-level and detailed designs for the Market Renewal Project and evolving the market design for the Ontario electricity market. Currently, Darren holds the position of Director of Markets at IESO, which they started in October 2023.

Darren Matsugu holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from McGill University, which they obtained from 2003 to 2004. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Financial Management at Wilfrid Laurier University from 1999 to 2003. Additionally, Darren is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder, having obtained this certification from the CFA Institute in 2010.
