Nicholas Coates Jr. has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. From 2022, they have been working as a Senior Cyber Exercise Planner at Indev. Prior to this, they served as a Member Board Of Trustees at Logan Heights Community Development Corporation from 2013 to 2022.
With U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Nicholas worked in multiple roles. From 2020 to 2022, they held the position of Assistant Chief Patrol Agent / Operations Support - CBP Watch / Acting Deputy Director. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing threat monitoring, risk assessment, and management. Nicholas managed global teams across 17 countries and ensured the submission of daily reports on potential threats.
Earlier, from 2016 to 2020, Nicholas worked as a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent / CDI, Emergency Preparedness Branch / Course Developer & Instructor. Nicholas managed a nationwide adult education program focused on emergency response, confined-space entry, and hazardous materials training. Nicholas restructured the course content and offerings, receiving recognition for the program.
From 1998 to 2016, Nicholas held various positions within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, including Program Manager, Management Inquiry Team, and Public Information Officer. Nicholas worked closely with the chief patrol agent to implement emergency management and coordinated crisis management programs.
Before joining U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Nicholas served in the US Army as a Sergeant, 11B2P, from 1991 to 1996.
Nicholas Coates Jr. holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Accounting and Business Management from National University. In addition to their degree, they have obtained several certifications in various fields. These include the National Emergency Management Basic Academy T-t-T certification from FEMA, which was obtained in April 2019. Nicholas also has a Master Exercise Practitioner certification from FEMA, acquired in September 2017. Furthermore, Nicholas holds a certification in E0449 from FEMA obtained in October 2016, and a certification in Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program L0146 from FEMA obtained in April 2016. Additionally, they have a Certification in Continuity of Operations Program L-0550 from FEMA obtained in May 2015 and a Critical Infrastructure Protection Certificate from Texas A&M University obtained in April 2015. Nicholas has also obtained a Professional Development Series certification from FEMA, acquired in September 2013, and a Professional Continuity Practitioner Level I certification from FEMA, obtained in May 2013.
