Nicola Ooi is an experienced research leader in the field of antibiotic development and microbiology, currently managing programs at INFEX Therapeutics since August 2017, where a drug candidate has progressed to a Phase I clinical trial for a novel anti-virulence therapy targeting Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections. Previously, Nicola served as Principal Scientist, successfully leading an antibiotic research project against WHO-listed critical pathogens, and has held positions as Head of Biology and Senior Scientist, focusing on antimicrobial agents targeting Gram-negative organisms. Prior experience includes work at Redx Pharma assessing novel small molecule antibiotics and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Leeds, where a collaborative project with Cubist Pharmaceuticals involved the characterization of natural product antibiotics. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and Bacteriology from the University of Leeds and a Master’s degree in Archaeozoology from the University of York.
