Ali Khajeh-Hosseini has over 18 years of experience in the tech industry. In 2002, they created AceJS.com, an online business with around 10,000 visitors per month at its peak. Ali also developed small to medium sized computer programs for different businesses and people, with FedEx being one of the key clients. In 2004, they worked as a software engineer at Aquidata Excel Ltd, modernizing various company products in the oil & gas sector by moving them from desktop to web apps. In 2006, they were awarded a Carnegie Scholarship Research Project at The Robert Gordon University. In 2011, they were an intern software engineer at RightScale, where they designed and implemented parts of a MultiCloud RESTful API and a Ruby API client. Ali was then promoted to Software Development Director in 2012, where they established the Edinburgh office, lead the development of PlanForCloud, and managed 15 engineers across EU and US. In the same year, they co-founded ShopForCloud, a cloud cost forecasting tool based on their PhD. In 2016, they co-founded AbarCloud, a public Container-as-a-Service platform, which was later acquired by Snapp and turned into a private cloud across two datacenters. Currently, they are the Co-Founder of Infracost, a company that empowers engineering teams to use cloud infrastructure economically and efficiently, and is backed by Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital.
Ali Khajeh-Hosseini received their PhD in Computer Science from the University of St Andrews in 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a MSc in High Performance Computing from The University of Edinburgh in 2008. Ali completed their undergraduate studies in 2007, earning a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from Robert Gordon University.
