Robert Patterson's work experience includes various roles in different companies. Robert started their career at Stokes County School in 2002 as a Behaviorally and Emotionally Disabled Teacher for grades K-5. Robert then moved to Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools in 2007, where they worked as a Behaviorally and Emotionally Disabled Teacher for grades K-3. In 2008, they joined Davidson County Schools as a Resource/Inclusion Exceptional Childrens Teacher, where they were responsible for providing targeted academic strategies for students with special educational needs. Robert also oversaw teacher performance surveys, club activity scheduling, and student rotation coordination. Additionally, they developed a master schedule based on Exceptional Children Program settings and converted the Teacher Handbook into an online searchable PDF format. In 2012, Robert started working at Inmar Intelligence, initially in the role of Data Management and later transitioning to Contract Management. In December 2019, they became a Retail Technology Analyst, and in December 2021, they assumed the position of Retail Technology Manager.

Robert Patterson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from High Point University, where they studied from 1997 to 2001. After completing their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, with a focus on General Education, at High Point University from 2001 to 2009.
