Jim Bierle

Sr. Staff Scientist, Molecular Biology at Inscripta, Inc.

Jim Bierle has a diverse work experience. Jim started their career at Amylin Pharmaceuticals in 1992, where they worked as a Sr. Research Associate. Jim played a key role in the development of Byetta® (exenatide) and executed various tasks such as stability testing, quality control release testing, and method development.

In 1999, Jim joined Illumina, Inc. as a Scientist in Molecular Biology. Jim was involved in the development of Illumina's first commercially available GoldenGate Genotyping product and subsequent Beadchip technology. Jim also co-developed the microarray decoding process and the process to make complex "Decoder" pools.

Jim then transitioned into a managerial role at Illumina, leading teams and overseeing various projects. As an Associate Director of Software Engineering and Automation, they built and managed a diverse cross-functional team responsible for developing and maintaining Illumina Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and liquid handling automation platforms. Jim successfully executed three major reorganizations and maintained project deadlines.

As a Senior Manager of Laboratory Automation and System Integration, Jim built a team responsible for overseeing all of Illumina's manufacturing LIMS and lab automation. Jim also played a core role in the successful launch of the Sentrix™ Array Matrix.

In 2014, Jim joined Illumina as the Director of Engineering, Enterprise Informatics. In this role, they managed a cross-functional team and transformed the Software Product Owner function. Jim improved overall team productivity and predictability by managing the product backlog and requirements for multiple agile scrum teams.

Finally, in 2017, Jim joined Inscripta, Inc. as a Sr. Staff Scientist, Molecular Biology. Their work involved developing the NGS-based Onyx™ Barcode Diversity Assay to assess library diversity in various organisms.
