Dr. Mercy Akinyi (BVM, PhD) is a seasoned research veterinarian at the Institute of Primate Research since November 2007, where responsibilities include serving as the Principal Investigator for various projects focused on epidemiological surveillance of zoonoses in wild primate populations, involving field darting, health monitoring, and molecular screening of pathogens. Prior experience includes a role as a postdoctoral researcher at KEMRI - Wellcome Trust from May 2018 to December 2021 and as a PhD Fellow at Duke University Graduate School from August 2011 to May 2017, where Dr. Akinyi also served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Biology department. Dr. Akinyi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology from Duke University, a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi, and a Master of Science in Medical Physiology from the same institution.
