Dr. Hamal Strayhorn has extensive experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion roles. Currently, they are serving as the inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the Institute on Aging, where they are responsible for integrating and elevating DEIB efforts into the organization's work streams. Prior to this, Dr. Strayhorn held positions such as Co-Founder of Wildflower Ministries, LLC, Manager of Inclusion and Diversity at Republic Services, and Training and Educational Consultant at George Mason University. They also served as the Director of the Center for Culture, Equity, and Empowerment/Coalition Building and Diversity Education at George Mason University, where they improved office partnerships and resources. Dr. Strayhorn's work experience also includes roles at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Montclair State University, Devereux Foundation, University of Scranton, and State University of New York College at Oswego. Throughout their career, Dr. Strayhorn has demonstrated expertise in training, development, strategic planning, and fostering inclusive environments.
Dr. Hamal Strayhorn completed their education with a Doctor of Theology (ThD) degree in Counseling from Summit Bible College in 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in Counseling and Pastoral Care from Gardner-Webb University in 2005. Dr. Hamal also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and Government from the same university, earned in 2002. Dr. Strayhorn received their high school diploma from Jones Senior High School in 1998. In addition to their degrees, Dr. Strayhorn has obtained several certifications including Immersive Experience Training from Embodied Labs®, IDI Qualified Administrator from IDI, LLC, and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from Rutherford Regional Health Systems. Dr. Hamal also has certifications as an Event Planner and Racial Healing Facilitator from unspecified institutions.
