Alan Leonardi

Alan Leonardi has a diverse work experience in the field of oceanography and research. Alan most recently served as the Director of the NOPP Office at Integrated Systems Solutions, Inc, where they provided program management and leadership for the National Oceanographic Partnership Program. Prior to that, they were the President and CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. From 2014 to 2021, Alan was the Director of the Office of Ocean Exploration and Research at NOAA, where they provided programmatic direction for ocean exploration and research. Alan also served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at XPRIZE and as the NOAA-Google Liaison at Google. Alan has teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member at Broward College and Miami Dade College, where they taught undergraduate courses. Alan has also held various roles in organizations such as the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association, and the Northern Gulf Institute.

Alan Leonardi received their Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. Alan then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Physical Oceanography at Florida State University, which they completed in 1998. Following this, Alan obtained their Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Florida State University in 2000. In terms of additional certifications, Alan earned a Key Executive Leadership Certificate from American University in 2008. Alan also holds certifications in Leadership for a Democratic Society from the Federal Executive Institute (obtained in October 2015), a Certificate of Executive Qualifications from the United States Office of Personnel Management, Qualifications Review Board (obtained in 2011), and a Certificate in Business Communication from the American Management Association (obtained in 2009).
