Michaela Swan

Director, Communications & Engagement at Interior Health Authority

Michaela Swan has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Michaela began their career as a Fire Control Room Supervisor at the Wildfire Management Branch, Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations in 2005. Michaela then transitioned to the role of Communications Officer at the same organization in 2009, where they were responsible for communications related to wildfire management. In 2013, Michaela joined the Interior Health Authority as a Communications Officer, and over time, they progressed to the position of Interim Manager, Medical Program Transformation. Michaela'srole involved leading strategic initiatives and managing communication and engagement strategies. In 2017, they took on a role as a Sessional Instructor at Thompson Rivers University, teaching in the Department of Journalism, Communication, and New Media. During their time at the university, Michaela also contributed to the field as a Sessional Instructor. Recently, in 2022, they returned to the Interior Health Authority as the Director of Communications and Engagement, where they lead a team of professionals and oversees various communication strategies, media relations, and crisis communications.

Michaela Swan earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Calgary in an unspecified year. Michaela then pursued a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from the University of British Columbia through University College of the Cariboo, which they completed in 2004. Michaela Swan later obtained a Master of Education in Leadership and Administration with a specialization in Crisis Communications from Gonzaga University, completing their studies in 2015.
