Shari McKeown

Shari McKeown has extensive work experience in various roles within the healthcare industry. In their most recent role at the Interior Health Authority, they served as the Director of Patient Care Quality, Safety & Accreditation and the Director of Patient Safety. Shari'sresponsibilities included designing and implementing frameworks for patient safety, managing adverse events, and leading cultural safety initiatives.

Prior to their work at the Interior Health Authority, Shari served as an Adjunct Faculty at Thompson Rivers University, where they contributed to the education of students. Shari also worked as a Peer Reviewer for the Respiratory Care Journal, providing expertise in reviewing scientific articles.

Shari has also held multiple positions at the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council, including Director of Learning & Capability Development, Director of Clinical Improvement, and Quality Leader. In these roles, they provided strategic direction, supported key clinical priorities, and promoted evidence-based clinical care.

In addition, Shari worked as an Expert Consultant at 10EQS, where they provided specialized knowledge and insights to clients. Shari also gained valuable experience at Vancouver Coastal Health as a Professional Practice Leader for Respiratory Therapy, Research and Staff Development Coordinator, Respiratory Therapist, and Anesthesia Assistant.

Early in their career, Shari worked as an EMA-1 Paramedic at the BC Ambulance Service.

The following year, in 2011, they attended the Quality Academy at BC Patient Safety & Quality Council. In 2010, they completed the Quality Improvement Program at the Institute of Healthcare Improvement Open School, focusing on Healthcare Quality Improvement. Shari also holds a Master's degree in Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University, obtained from 2009 to 2011. Earlier in their education, from 1992 to 1995, they pursued a degree in Respiratory Therapy (RRT) at Thompson Rivers University. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in gamification in health from Credly in 2015.
