Matthew Vaughan

Director, Aviation Security at International Air Transport Association

Matthew Vaughan has a diverse work experience in aviation security and cyber roles. Matthew started their career as a Constable with the NSW Police Force in 2000 and later transitioned to the Australian Public Service in 2005. Matthew then joined GHD as a Senior Security Consultant in 2007 before moving to Etihad Airways as the Head of Aviation Security in 2008. Most recently, they held leadership positions at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as Director of Aviation Security and Cyber.

Matthew Vaughan completed their Bachelor of Arts in Policing and Justice at Charles Sturt University from 2000 to 2005. Matthew then pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Criminal Intelligence at Charles Sturt University from 2004 to 2006. Matthew later obtained a Diploma in Aviation (Security) Management from Edith Cowan University in 2007-2008, followed by the completion of the ICAO AVSEC Professional Managers Course at Concordia University in 2008. Matthew furthered their education by earning a Master of Science (MSc) in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester from 2009 to 2012. In 2023, Matthew attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for Aviation Cybersecurity. Throughout the years, they also acquired various certifications, including those in company directorship, airline safety investigation, crisis leadership, instructional techniques, and aviation cybersecurity.
