Ben Dooley

Ben Dooley is an investigative reporter at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) since January 2024. Prior experience includes serving as a correspondent for the New York Times from January 2019 to December 2023, focusing on Japanese business and the economy. Ben also held the position of deputy news editor at AFP from October 2015 to November 2018, coordinating reporting on China and Mongolia, and previously worked as a correspondent for parts of China and Mongolia. Early career experience includes reporting on Chinese politics and society for Kyodo News International, serving as general manager for Good Governance International, writing for The Millions, and conducting research at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Ben's academic background includes a Master’s degree in Asian Studies from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Virginia.
