Assumpta Happy Umwagarwa has a diverse range of work experience in the field of human resources and management. Assumpta Happy began their career as a Project Assistant at Rwanda Private Sector Federation in 2004, where they provided guidance and training to participants in the Business Plan Competition. In 2005, they worked as a Trainer at Women for Women International, educating women beneficiaries on various topics and equipping them with life skills. Later that year, they joined Fina Bank - Rwanda as a Training and Development Manager, where they managed recruitment, performance management, talent development, and a team of HR personnel and trainers.

In 2010, Assumpta worked as a Management Consultant and Trainer at EllenBliss Consulting, addressing client requirements, delivering training solutions, and managing multiple projects. Assumpta Happy then transitioned to the role of Human Resources Analyst & Learning Manager at UNDP in 2011, where they played a strategic role in advancing the organization's mandate and implementing HR planning, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, and administration of benefits and entitlements.

Assumpta's next role was in UNDP South Sudan, where they were on a detail assignment for three months in 2013. There, they managed the Country office's Human Resources Realignment process, focusing on recruitment, selection, and change management to achieve strategic goals. Assumpta Happy returned to UNDP Rwanda as a Human Resources Analyst in 2014 before being promoted to Chief Human Resources Officer at the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa in 2016. In this role, they represented the organization in discussions on recruitment and HR matters, advised senior leadership on policy implementation, and contributed to budget development.

Most recently, Assumpta has been working at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) since July 2022 as the Head of the Administrative and Personnel Division. In this position, they manage talent management, HR administration, procurement, and inventory management.

Assumpta Happy Umwagarwa began their education journey in 2000 at the University of Rwanda, where they pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with a focus on Human Resources Management. Assumpta Happy completed their undergraduate studies in 2005.

In 2009, Assumpta enrolled at the University of Greenwich to pursue a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Management. Assumpta Happy successfully completed their postgraduate studies in 2010.

Currently, Assumpta is furthering their education at the University of Leicester, where they started their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management in 2022. Assumpta Happy is expected to complete their doctoral degree in 2029.
