Kai Ostwald is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, serving in the School of Public Policy & Global Affairs and the Department of Political Science since July 2014. In addition to this role, Kai Ostwald directs the Institute of Asian Research and the Centre for Southeast Asia Research, having previously co-directed the latter in the 2014/15 academic year. As an Associate Editor for Pacific Affairs since July 2018, Kai Ostwald contributes to the field of Southeast Asian studies and collaborates with the International Development Research Centre on projects focused on capacity building in Myanmar and economic integration in Southeast Asia. Kai Ostwald has also held research and consultancy roles with ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute and the World Bank. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Political Science from UC San Diego and a Master's degree from the National University of Singapore.
