Eelke Bouma has a strong background in research and development in the biotechnology industry. Eelke started their career as a Teaching Assistant at Wageningen UR, where they assisted in the teaching of biotechnology courses. Eelke then interned at FeyeCon Carbon Dioxide Technologies, where they worked on product development.
In 2013, Bouma conducted their MSc thesis in process analysis at Enki Energy and Wageningen UR. Eelke focused on optimizing and controlling anaerobic digesters for biogas production. Bouma operated and monitored lab-scale fermentations, developed a complex dynamic process model in Matlab, and refined parameters to reproduce measured gas production.
Bouma then interned at Lonza in 2016, where they supported the lab team in the fermentation development group. Eelke was responsible for preparing, monitoring, and sampling fermentation and clarification operations. Eelke also validated methods for at-line metabolite analysis and proposed tweaks to automate fermenters.
Their most recent position was at Intravacc in 2017, where they served as a Research Assistant in downstream-process development for viral vaccines. Their responsibilities included performing filtration and chromatography operations, planning and analyzing experiments, implementing cloud-based data-management software, and developing mechanistic models for downstream operations.
Eelke Bouma's education history includes completing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biotechnology at Wageningen University & Research from 2008 to 2012. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biotechnology at the same institution from 2012 to 2014.
