Adam Safir has a diverse and extensive work experience in the chemical and materials industry.
Adam started their career at Symyx Technologies in 1997, where they served as the Director of High Throughput Materials Research for over 12 years. In this role, they managed multidisciplinary research teams and was responsible for overseeing various aspects of materials research.
In 2010, Safir joined Amyris Biotechnologies as the Director of Chemistry and Polymer Science. Adam led the discovery-chemistry group and oversaw interdisciplinary product development teams.
Safir worked as an Independent Contractor at Chemical Consultant from 2013 to 2014, where they served in various capacities.
From 2014 to 2021, Safir held multiple roles at Zymergen, Inc. Adam started as the Vice President of Materials Research and Development, where they negotiated contracts with DARPA and oversaw the delivery of technical milestones for a large funded project. Later, they were promoted to Vice President of Strategy and Projects, where they led the technical project management team and drove cross-department business process development.

Adam Safir received their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara in 1991. Adam then went on to obtain their Ph.D. in Metal Mediated Polymerizations and Conducting Polymers from the University of California, Berkeley, completing their doctoral studies between the years 1991 and 1996.
