Senior Scientist - Strain Engineer | Synthetic Biologist | Project Lead at Invaio Sciences

Joseph K. Bedree, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in the field of synthetic biology and genetics. Joseph K. started their career as a Research Assistant at Purdue University, where they evaluated potential universally conserved proteins in E. coli. Joseph K. then worked as a Scientist Intern at Armata Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where they engineered natural bacteriophage to enhance desirable phenotypes and coordinated synthetic bacteriophage platform development.

Joseph also gained experience as a Graduate Student Instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles, teaching Microbiology to undergraduate students and developing teaching lesson plans. Joseph K. continued their academic journey at the same university as a NIH-Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Fellow and later as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The ADA Forsyth Institute.

In addition, Joseph attended specialized courses in Synthetic Biology and Advanced Bacterial Genetics at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, further enhancing their expertise. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Scientist at Invaio, where they serve as a Strain Engineer and Synthetic Biologist, leading various projects.

Joseph K. Bedree, Ph.D. earned their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biology with a minor in Organizational Leadership from Purdue University from 2008 to 2013. Joseph K. then went on to complete their Doctor of Philosophy in Oral Biology (Ph.D.) with a focus on Molecular Biology and Microbiology at UCLA from 2014 to 2020. Prior to their undergraduate studies, they attended Walnut Hills High School from 2003 to 2008.
