J. Anthony Allen

J. Anthony Allen has been working in the music industry since 2009. J. Anthony began their career as Composition & Songwriting Faculty at McNally Smith College of Music. In 2012, they became a Senior Consultant at Slam Academy and Co-Founder, Owner, Instructor, and CEO in the same year. J. Anthony also served as CTO at Ion Concert Media from 2014-2019 and Adjunct Faculty at University of St. Thomas from 2014-2018. Additionally, they were a Board Member at American Composers Forum from 2013-2014 and Composition Coordinator and Online Project Specialist, Composition Faculty at MacPhail Center for Music from 2014-2018. From 2018-2019, they were a Department Chair and Assistant Professor: Music Business & Technology at Augsburg University. Most recently, they have been the Chief Executive Officer at Punkademic since 2019, teaching music production and making classes more affordable and accessible to everyone.

J. Anthony Allen has an extensive education history. J. Anthony obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Music from Grand Valley State University in 2001. J. Anthony then went on to The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, where they earned a Master's Degree in Music Theory and Composition in 2003. J. Anthony also earned a Master of Music in Composition and Electronic Music from the same institution in 2003. In 2004-2005, they attended the Aspen Music Festival and School to participate in the Composition Individual Studies Program in Music Theory and Composition. In 2005, they attended the Center for the Composition of Music Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) to study Music Composition and Electronic Music. J. Anthony then obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Composition from the University of Minnesota in 2011. In 2017, they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of St. Thomas. In addition, they are an Ableton Live Certified Trainer, which they obtained from Ableton in 2012.
